Now you’re speaking my language!

Selling is all about trust.

And to gain someone’s trust, you have to speak to them in their language.

That’s why the first step in entering the German market is to translate or adapt your brand identity to your new audience.

Here’s what a good translation should look like:

Linguistic accuracy
A translation should never ever sound like one. The translation should demonstrate fluency in the target language, including proper grammar, syntax, and vocabulary usage. That’s a given.

Cultural appropriateness
Not everything works in German the way it does in English. We celebrate Christmas differently, have a completely different mentality and don’t laugh about the same jokes as you do. The translation should take into account cultural nuances
and sensitivities of the target audience, ensuring that the message resonates appropriately within their cultural context.

Consistency in brand voice
As far as possible, the translation should reflect the same brand voice and tone as in the original language. Whether the brand is formal, friendly, professional, or humorous, the translated content should convey the same personality to maintain consistency across all communications.

Why hire a professional translator instead of AI?

Let’s conduct a quick experiment.

  1. Visit the website of a well-known multinational brand and switch the language settings to a language other than English.
  2. Select any text from their website and copy/paste it into an online translation tool, translating it back into English.
  3. Take a moment to evaluate the results.

It probably makes the brand seem unprofessional, unreliable, or lacking investment in quality.

We’ll handle your translations  — for a perfect first and lasting impression

While machine translation seems like a much more economic option compared to hiring a professional translator, you probably know the saying: buy cheap, buy twice.

You may save on the translation, but poor-quality copy on your website will cost you your brand’s reputation  —  and with it, lots of paying customers.

You don’t need to hire us to take care of your German translations, but please do not rely solely on machine translation.

Thinking about hiring us?

Here’s what to expect:

1

Get in touch

Let’s meet for a personal conversation to discuss your goals with our collaboration. Here you will already receive initial recommendations from us and we get a chance to know each other better.

2

Briefing form

We’ll then send you a detailed briefing form for you to fill out. This will provide us with all the necessary information for creating your translation, including details about you, your brand, your offer and your target audience.

3
Personalised quote

After verbal or written approval following the briefing form / discovery call, you will receive a bespoke quote containing all important information about our
collaboration (type and scope of text, feedback, deadline, and investment).

4
Text creation and feedback

Based on all the information from you, we’ll create your translations and share them with you in a Google Drive folder for you to access anytime. If you have native speakers on your team, they’re free to provide us with feedback so we can make any final changes before submitting the translation.

5
Typesetting

When the translation is implemented on your website, a blog, a newsletter, an advert, etc., there may be occurrences of so-called typesetting errors, such as incorrect copy-pasting or improper line breaks. To prevent these errors, we offer to double- check your texts after implementation.

Just imagine offering your product or service in Germany, Austria or Switzerland…?

Why trust us with your translations?

Because our translations don’t sound like translations. As native German speakers and experienced linguists, we know exactly how to capture the essence of the source text and express it in natural, engaging German language.

Since we also provide copywriting services, we’re accustomed to thinking creatively and incorporating fresh ideas where needed. While English may allow for clarity and conciseness without appearing “cold” German often requires additional adjectives or a touch of humour. We’ll do everything necessary to transform your German text into effective marketing content that converts readers into satisfied clients.

We look out for our clients. Ultimately, expanding to a new market is about more than just language. It’s about understanding a whole new culture, way of thinking and consumer behaviour. So, if you ever have any questions about us Germans, we’re here to help. Likewise, we’ll let you know if something doesn’t work at all in the German market and make alternative suggestions.

Logo LanzAbility
Who is LanzAbility?
Or who is Crazy DAVID? We’re not sure which one is better known. David’s the CEO of LanzAbility, the only holiday provider in Lanzarote that caters for people with disabilities. David initially reached out to WordPotential because he wanted to offer these unique adapted holidays to German holidaymakers. While this is still planned for the future, he became more interested in the power of LinkedIn and how engaging posts can really make a difference.

Service

A perfectly adapted holiday of a lifetime for people with diverse disabilities (wheelchair users, visually impaired, other special needs). This includes not only adapted accommodation and transport, but also unique adapted experiences.

Mission

To make the magical island of Lanzarote accessible to everyone, regardless of their disability, and to help them create unforgettable memories.
Goal
To become visible and increase his reach on social media, especially LinkedIn, to build a strong personal brand that attracts the right people.

How is WordPotential helping LanzAbility?
Over the past 6 months, we’ve helped David with content creation in the form of:
  • Regular social media posts
  • Social media profile makeover
  • Various articles and other content the for LanzAbility website
  • A newsletter collaboration
  • A bespoke collaboration email

Results

David himself says he’s getting a lot more traffic to both his social media profiles and the LanzAbility website.

What’s even better is that he receives frequent enquiries for collaboration from disability organisations and advocates.

This is creating more awareness of LanzAbility and its wonderful mission, which we are sure will soon result in fully booked holiday accommodation in Lanzarote.

Initially, I chose not to promote Laura or WordPotential because she’s sooooooo bloody good at what she does I don’t wanna share her with anyone else. But sharing is caring, and after working together for over 9 months now, I know I can count on her for the long run.

I knew that working with a copywriter would be an ongoing investment, but running two businesses, I also knew I wouldn’t have the time nor the linguistic and creative skills to create proper content for LanzAbility. After 20 minutes of talking to Laura, I knew she was the right fit because she understands my brand SO well.

Everything she writes or “laurifies” is always authentic and on-brand. She asks the right questions to get new input or proactively comes up with her own ideas. I guess she’s a good mix of Made in Germany-quality and Canary Islands easy-goingness. Laura, you are not just a team member, you are a key part of the success of my business.

Logo Eversports
Who is Eversports?

Back in 2013, booking and paying for sports activities online was quite a challenge, with the necessary information often scattered across various websites. That’s when Vienna-based Eversports decided to create one central platform to connect activity enthusiasts with studios, sports centres, teachers, and trainers.

Currently, Eversports are established in 8 countries and offer their services in the B2B sector. Now they’re expanding into the German-speaking B2C sector with the aim of making sports activities more easily accessible to people like you and me.

Service

A modern software tool for businesses to automate administration, increase retention, boost acquisition, and help them grow. Additionally, the Eversports marketplace connects consumers with studios and sports providers.

Mission

Eversports contribute to a healthier and more active society by empowering everyone to improve their lives through sports, fitness and mindful movement. They aim to get people going and keep them moving.

Goal

To expand from B2B to B2C within the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).

How is WordPotential helping Eversports?
Eversports’ most powerful marketing channel is blog articles. People are looking to relieve physical pain or try out a new sport will typically open up Google and ask questions such as:
  • “Is yoga really effective for lower back pain?”
  • “Should I keep on training or rest when I have sore muscles?”
  • “Where do I find a squash court in my area?”
These are the types of questions Eversports wants to help people with. Through easy-to-read, fun and informative blog articles, they aim to provide answers to all things sports and encourage their readers to get moving.
To ensure that Eversports’ blog articles appear at the top of the search engine results pages (SERPs), each article must be SEO optimised. This allows the search engines to easily find and display articles that are relevant to the reader’s Google search query. How? Among other things:
  • Reader-friendly article structure
  • Relevant keywords and links,
  • Engaging ToV and a little tongue-in-cheek?

Results

It’s a bit early to compare the results, but we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, you can click here to check out their German blog.

We reached out to Laura and her team because we aimed to scale our content production on our B2C blog and ensure everything was adequately optimized for Google search. Outsourcing this work was crucial as we were facing internal capacity constraints.

Thanks to the collaboration with WordPotential, we’ve managed to scale our production tenfold while ensuring fully optimized content. Though it’s still a bit early to assess the exact results, to date, we’ve witnessed a 27% increase in organic clicks on our blog articles since initiating this collaboration.

Laura and the entire WordPotential team are very friendly, professional, prompt to respond, and highly competent. They consistently deliver quality work and are a pleasure to work with.

How is WordPotential helping Olistic?

The first step to expanding to Germany (and Austria) was to get all existing content translated. The WordPotential team took care of:

  • Their entire website
  • Product brochures
  • Packaging
  • Email flows
  • Paid ads
  • Video content (copy)
  • Order confirmations

And so much more.

To ensure that the translations sound as natural as possible while maintaining Olistic’s friendly yet professional tone of voice, we scheduled several meetings with Olistic’s marketing team.

Together, we agreed on specific terminology, exchanged ideas, and gained a deeper insight into their brand identity. Slogans and wordplay in particular require some extra creative thinking.

The icing on the cake was a package from Olistic for the entire WP team to try out the product for themselves.

With Asana, our project management tool, we set up an efficient workflow where both teams could easily access all tasks, communicate as needed, and keep track of the overall progress.

The second step in the German market launch is focused on increasing reach.

One key way to accomplish this is by creating new content to enhance your online presence. This can take place through many different channels.

Currently, WordPotential is helping Olistic with:

  • Their weekly German newsletter
  • Blog articles for their website
  • Also coming soon is their German Instagram account

As the team was already familiar with both the product and the brand, creating fresh content for Olistic was like translating existing content but adding our own ideas.

Our marketing and SEO expertise combined with our creative minds made this a fun experience with excellent results.

Results

Olistic Science successfully launched their product in the German and Austrian markets in September 2023. Their newsletter reaches thousands of readers every week, and their German Instagram channel is poised to follow suit, with plenty of content prepared to launch in 2024.

See for yourself!

Laura provided exceptional support for our new market opening. The speed and flexibility of her team was crucial in meeting tight deadlines at peak times.

Open communication, brand understanding and efficient project management ensured a smooth and efficient process from start to finish. Working with Laura and her team is not only easy but also impressively fast. Highly recommended!
